“Let’s be clear: the Deep State is not six people in hoods muttering incantations. It’s a shifting landscape of those at the top of the heap — not a monolith but a bloody battlefield, with factions breaking both bread and heads. It includes financiers, industrialists, media titans, generals, spymasters, strategists, and experts in the black arts of mass influence. It even includes a super-verboten topic: how the “overworld” (the legit) do business, albeit usually at arm’s length, with the underworld.” from Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief Russ Baker “Who, What, Why?”
For a few of our followers, some of that which you will read and hear … here … will offend. We offer absolutely no apology for bringing to light and mind alternate perspectives. Regardless of political preferences, the challenge is to keep friends close and enemies closer … the clearest understanding of and familiarity with both sides of any equation is essential to getting at the truth. And … as has been our experience working in the Criminal Justice System … there are many important and vital truths to be found by analyzing propaganda from all sides. That’s why Lady Justice is blindfolded and holding balance scales. It all begins as a heap of road kill that we must winnow and sift to finally get at the truth. See “As for the Black Arts.”
Long Time Capitol Hill Insider Exposes the Kind of Government We Really Have! Now, Mike Lofgren — a long time Capitol Hill insider, Senate and House Budget Committee staffer — shares 28 years of up close and personal insight which has led him to similar conclusions.
Lofgren thinks he has found the unifying theory. From his Washington perch,he has observed deep and intricate connections between Wall Street, the military, defense contractors, political operatives, the treasury, elected leaders, and unnamed others. And he has perceived the presence of a shadow government.
This complex web was made even stronger by 9/11 and the 2008 financial meltdown. And it leaves out ordinary citizens — the patsies — as more and more money is sucked out of the system and denied to those looking for even the most basic government infrastructure and services.
Lofgren is out with a new book and, in this week’s podcast, he’s interviewed by WhoWhatWhy’s Jeff Schechtman. He talks the nitty gritty of the Deep State, showing once again that WhoWhatWhy is your Deep State Headquarters.
The book is called The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government, and it is published by Viking.

Deep State Sampler:
Deep State analysis is at the core of what we do at WhoWhatWhy. With that genre apparently no longer simply dismissed as “conspiracy theory,” the corporate media seem to be playing catch up to a game that is already well into overtime. 2/21/2017

The true significance of what happened on 9/11 goes far beyond what meets the eye. Peter Dale Scott focuses on a secret “Continuity of Government” plan that had been decades in the making. Consequently, he argues, there has been a permanent change to the United States that permeates the lives of all Americans, resulting in the suspension of Constitutional rights and the transformation of America in ways that we are still living with today. Podcast, 9/12/2015
A compelling look at the facts lurking behind the official histories of events to uncover the real dynamics in play. How manipulations by Big Oil and a shadowy alliance of national intelligence agencies called the Safari Club helped Ronald Reagan defeat President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 election. Peter Dale Scott, 11/2/2014
The Plame affair reminded us spies are real. And the Trump investigation is reminding us that spying might be necessary … but a sophisticated intelligence apparatus is not necessarily a Deep State. Toni Johnson, 6/11/2018
From Watergate to Iraq War propaganda, conflicts between the Deep State and the Executive branch have proven helpful to the public. They provided a glimpse into the White House and the nation’s intelligence apparatus, leading to important reforms. So perhaps an open conflict between the Trump administration and the Deep State isn’t such a bad thing. Peter Dale Scott, 3/6/2017
On the campaign trail, Donald Trump attacked Wall Street, but now he plans to roll back the recent reforms of the financial sector. This action confirms the importance of his connections to big money, both new (often self-made) and old (mostly institutional). Peter Dale Scott, 2/6/2017
The world’s richest are now more likely to be internet billionaires than traditional “captains of industry.” However, these young mavericks are still trying to shape the world in a way that suits them. With regard to the Deep State, the players may have changed, but the game remains the same. Peter Dale Scott, February 7, 2017
Barrett Brown and Barry Eisler examine whether the Deep State even exists today, or is there simply no leadership smart enough to keep it going. Podcast, 8/28/2017
