Additionally, we cannot resist and therefore gleefully succumb to the compulsion to issue this first of a kind “Dumb Assed – Sad Assed – Smart Assed – Bad Assed” award to Utah’s Goodfellas mentioned herein.

Altria is Big Tobacco …

“But I didn’t know Altria was Big Tobacco!” said Utah Goodfella Senator Snort.  The Ole’ buzzard says that Snort’s snivel sounds kinda’ like the alibi several of Utah’s infamous, idiot Office Holders could have used after being “outed” by a Prostitution Sting/Bust.  “But we didn’t know they were prostitutes!” said …(Google em.’ I haven’t the heart to out em’ here.)

In order to keep the “Booty” flowing, it just stands to reason that our Goodfella, Office Holder, Takers would obsequiously do their duty by rendering  traditional, socially obligatory niceties like “Thank you for your contribution!” on official letterhead … a “Thank You” from Utah’s Top10Takers whose booty from Big Tobacco ranged from $6,000.00 to $27,850.00 … Oooops … forgot to re-list Opioid Orrin” Hatch for $21,000.00;Unfit Mitt” Romney for $94,540.00 see also UniftMitt & UnfitMitt & UnfitMitt & UnfitMitt. Where there’s smoke there’s the Angry “F” Bomb and UnfitMitt … the takin’est of all the Goodfella Takers.

Smoke smoke smoke that cigarette
Puff puff puff
And if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette!

Our comments about those “Takers” who are LDS Ecclesiastical Leaders … Bishops especially.

There is no special interest more evil, insidious and pernicious than Big Tobacco.  There’s ample proof of that in what follows.  It is unconscionable for an LDS Ecclesiastical and Utah State leader to have been “On the Take.”

Thoughtfully and seriously contemplated, the Big Tobacco Hypocrisy is a “lurking,” ticking time bomb of potential, inestimable life-long impact on LDS youth and relationships with their compromised Bishops …

LDS Bishops interview, counsel and teach their youth to follow a “Word of Wisdom” yet we’ve discovered many Bishops “On the Take.”  “And again, tobacco is not for the body, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.”

So who spreads this largess … this funny money … this fruit from an incomparably  poisonous tree?

Utah’s lobbyists!

    • Greg Curtis  Lobbies for Altria Client Services Inc. and its Affiliates–Philip Morris USA Inc., John Middleton Co., and U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co  Represented Altria for 9 years  From Wikipedia “Click Here” we learn this about Curtis: Utah House of Representatives Curtis was first elected to the State Legislature in 1994, defeating Republican incumbent Russell Cannon in the primary. He represented the 49th house district centered around Sandy and Cottonwood Heights. In 2005, he succeeded Martin Stephens as Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives. Allegations of corruption – Beginning in October 2008, Curtis was plagued by accusations from several former state employees who claimed that Curtis abused his government position to benefit his legal clients financially. One of these former employees, Doug Clark, claimed that Curtis cut funding and caused layoffs to anyone who opposed his plans to build a public transit facility in the midst of an ancient Native American settlement in Draper, Utah. Changing the location of the proposed facility would have kept land owners in the area from moving forward with subsequent development plans. Clark said that Curtis told him, “Doug, I am the speaker of the House. If I want something, I get it. … I want you to talk to DNR to figure out a way to get that road through there. I know this may sound a little strange. You may think it is unethical — because it probably is — because effectively I’m asking you as a state employee to work for me and do work for my law client.”

On November 4, 2008, Curtis became the first sitting Speaker of the House in Utah to fail to win re-election in 40 years. Democrat Jay Seegmiller won by over 10% – nearly 1,400 votes.  Lobbying career For the 2009 legislative session, Curtis returned to Utah’s Capitol Hill – not as a state representative – but as a lobbyist representing several large companies, including Intermountain Healthcare, UTA, Altria Group, parent company of Philip Morris.

    • Robert Donaldson – Represented Altria for 10 years; Miles Ferry –Represented Altria for 9 years; Suzanne Ferry – Represented Altria for 9 years; David Stewart – Represented Altria for 10 years.

Travesty and Tragedy

In terms of the sum of numbers reflecting a global human travesty and tragedy, it is arguably more ethical, moral, practical and safe to take campaign finance donations from Vladimir Putin, ISIS, The Taliban, The Mafia, North Korea or Iran than it should be ethical to finance one’s political campaign with money from Big Tobacco.

The mere act of having a proximity to and connivance with Big Tobacco is a travesty of unconscionable proportions … and … becomes either a study in arrogance and hypocrisy or abject brainless, heartless, and cowardly conduct by Utah’s Legislators.

CDC Statistics

From the Center for Disease Control, “Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day.”

Smoking Also Has Serious Financial Repercussions  by , Jan 11, 2019

Alongside the serious health problems it causes, smoking can also burn a sizeable hold in your wallet. Tobacco use contributes to nearly half a million deaths in the U.S. every year and its economic and societal costs are over $300 billion annually.  A recent WalletHub study set out to find out how much smoking costs people in the U.S. over the course of their lifetimes. The research was based on the cost of a pack of cigarettes per day, health care expenditure and income losses and other costs due to the habit.   It found that Connecticut has the highest annual cost for a smoker at $55,973 each year. New York comes second with $55,911 while D.C. is in third place at $55,167. Shockingly, smoking a pack a day in Connecticut will cost a heavy smoker there a whopping $2.8 million through direct and associated costs in his or her lifetime.

Constituent donations add up to about 3 percent of campaign accounts, raising questions about who’s got legislators’ ears. https://goo.gl/3rLFJA Tribune article by Lee Davidson January 23, 2018.
“Special interests provided 92 percent of all the campaign donations that members of the 2018 Utah Legislature raised last year. Only 3 percent came from individuals who live in the member’s district, a Salt Lake Tribune analysis of disclosure forms shows. This is a pattern seen over several years.”

From the Center for Disease Control (CDC) https://goo.gl/eDqvsm Smoking leads to disease and disability and harms nearly every organ of the body. More than 16 million Americans are zLung-Cancerliving with a disease caused by smoking. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis. Smoking is a known cause of erectile dysfunction in males. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death. Worldwide, tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than zsmoking-parents480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers. If smoking continues at the current rate among U.S. youth, 5.6 million of today’s Americans younger than 18 years of age are expected to die prematurely from a smoking-related illness. This represents about one in every 13 Americans aged 17 years or younger who are alive today.

In an article by Lee Davidson of The Salt Lake Tribune, December 12, 2016, “So 88 percent of Utah legislators — eight of every nine — are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”  We know of at least one Mormon Bishop on the foregoing roster.

Orrin Hatch & Hypocrisy is the Mother’s Milk of Campaign Financing

WASHINGTON—Two high-ranking lawmakers on the Senate committee that crafts legislation about health and oversees public health agencies disclosed that they or their families traded in tobacco company stock while they were on the committee, according to a STAT review. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) reported purchasing at least $15,000 worth of stock in Philip Morris International. Hatch reported that on Oct. 23, 2012, when he was a member of the committee, an account on which he is a joint owner acquired between $15,001 and $50,000 of Philip Morris stock. HatchGlassesHe reported that in 2013, he owned less than $1,001 of the stock and collected dividends between $201 and $1,000. https://goo.gl/NfWrwd
