The tenor, tone and tenets of the Utah Compact are appealing. However, the personalities on the face of it are laughable.
The Ole’ Buzzard’s Note: “Moe” Paul Mero, “Curly” Curt Bramble, and “Larry” David Irvine along with a gaggle of Utah’s Goodfellas are movers and shakers, Stooges behind the Utah Compact’s push to discredit Dr. Ron Mortensen and his efforts to protect our children from identity theft. Two, recent, Goodfellas “hit” pieces with our comments are found near the end of this posting.
Mero … is astride a span of “schisms” from Sutherland to conservative vs. whatever or whomever Mero applauds or denigrates with his “Compact” for Utah’s Goodfellas. Mero is Utah’s Goodfellow anointed, immigration, Chicken Little. When in worry, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!”
Bramble … is the Utah Senator on the take from Big Tobacco $31,150.00, Energy Solutions $25,600.00, PayDay Loans $25,300.00. Be careful about which pot you are calling black Senator Kettle.
Irvine … is a former Utah legislator and hardly one to get “preachy” about Utah Republican values. He lists as a claim to fame, “… founding member of Utah Mormons for Hillary, a bipartisan coalition of Utah members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who supported 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.” Wikipedia Hillary Clinton Controversies Oooops!
To synopsize Dr. Mortensen’s well reasoned examples that follow …
… he makes the case for enforcing the use of E-verify to ensure the rule of law and good governance in the immigration workplace arena. Nationally mandated E-verify among several other programs he recommends would help eliminate the opportunity for Illegal Immigrants to steal the identities of our children and other innocents as has been and is currently the case.
We at Justice4All and The Ole’ Buzzard’s Blog have entered the fray for a number of reasons. First and foremost, we are enrolled in E-verify and committed to do our part to protect children from employment related identity theft. E-verify is simple enough for even this 82-year-old Buzzard to use with ease. And finally … the “hit” pieces on Mortensen are simplistic, sophomoric and sensational appeals to feelings rather than appeals to reason, appeals for the rule of law, and appeals for good governance.
Illegal but Not Undocumented? How could that be? And what are the consequences?
According to a 2009 study by Dr. Ron Mortensen and testimony to Congress by Jennifer Andushko, the mother of a five year-old identity theft victim, here’s how …
• Illegal immigrants are not “undocumented.” They have fraudulent documents such as counterfeit Social Security cards, forged drivers licenses, fake “green cards,” and phony birth certificates. Experts suggest that approximately 75 percent of working-age illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security cards to obtain employment.
• Most (98 percent) Social Security number (SSN) thieves use their own names with stolen numbers. The federal E-Verify program, now mandated in only 14 states, can detect this fraud. Universal, mandatory use of E-Verify would curb this and stop virtually 100 percent of child identity theft.
• Illegal immigration and high levels of identity theft go hand-in-hand. States with the most illegal immigration also have high levels of job-related identity theft. In Arizona, 33 percent or all identity theft is job-related (as opposed to identity theft motivated simply by profit). In Texas it is 27 percent; in New Mexico, 23 percent; in Colorado, 22 percent; California, 20 percent; and in Nevada, 16 percent. Eight of the 10 states with the highest percentage of illegal aliens in their total population are among the top 10 states in identity theft (Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, Nevada, New York, Georgia, and Colorado).
• Children are prime targets. In Arizona, it is estimated that over one million children are victims of identity theft. In Utah, 1,626 companies were found to be paying wages to the SSNs of children on public assistance under the age of 13. These individuals suffer very real and very serious consequences in their lives.
• Illegal aliens commit felonies in order to get jobs. Illegal aliens who use fraudulent documents, perjure themselves on I-9 forms, and commit identity theft in order to get jobs are committing serious offenses and are not “law abiding.”
• Illegally employed aliens send billions of dollars annually to their home countries, rather than spending it in the United States and helping stimulate the American economy. In October 2008 alone, $2.4 billion was transferred to Mexico.
• Tolerance of corruption erodes the rule of law. Corruption is a serious problem in most illegal aliens’ home countries. Allowing it to flourish here paves the way for additional criminal activity and increased corruption throughout society.
• Leaders support perpetrators and ignore victims. Political, civic, religious, business, education, and media leaders blame Americans for “forcing” illegal aliens to commit document fraud and identity theft. No similar concern is expressed for the American men, women, and children whose lives are destroyed in the process. Center for Immigration Studies
• The Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service facilitate illegal immigrant-driven identity theft. Both turn a blind eye to massive SSN fraud and take no action to stop it. The Social Security Administration assigns SSNs to new-born infants that are being used illegally. The IRS demands that victims pay taxes on wages earned by illegal aliens using their stolen SSNs, while taking no action to stop the identity theft.
• State and local governments need to adopt tougher laws to supplement federal efforts. The Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is targeting large document fraud rings and the most egregious employers, but their resources are limited and stretched across multiple priorities. In 2007, identity theft cases represented only 7 percent of the total ICE case load.
• Employers must do their part. They can ensure that they have a legal workforce by using a combination of the federal government’s E-Verify and Social Security Number Verification Service systems and by signing up for the federal government’s IMAGE program or privately conducted audits.

A video interview with an Illegal alien in Utah using a stolen social security number who says he is sorry if he is hurting someone but he needs the number to work. According to the Utah Attorney General’s office, up to 20,000 Utah kids could have been affected in 2007 and that number is now estimated to be in excess of 80,000.
It’s hard to envision the (Utah) legislature passing a real (illegal immigration) crackdown in the wake of a compact virtually endorsed by the LDS Church…. There’s a political reality in Utah: When business leaders, conservative activists, civic leaders and the state’s dominant church line up in one direction, any bill going another (direction) will have a tough time on Capitol Hill.
So who’s wagging whom?
Although the Chamber was the driving force behind the Compact, you won’t find the Chamber’s fingerprints on it. This explains how the LDS Church came to support the Compact. The “sub rosa” aura is thick enough to cut with a dull knife.

‘Exercise in the extreme obvious’
A prominent Utah lawmaker says while he appreciates the sentiment of the document, the Utah Compact is not a helpful model to apply to the national immigration debate. He says while the Utah Compact has been heralded as “grand compromise,” a closer look reveals a document that offers no tangible solutions. “Much of what was said in the Utah Compact was an exercise in the extreme obvious,” he said. “Most of what they said amounts to what everyone knows already.” He says, partly because of the vague and broad nature of the compact’s principles, he believes many people in the Trump administration making policy decisions on immigration would say that they agree with the principles of the Utah Compact and are adhering to them. “It kind of creates the suggestion that it’s insightful, when it’s really not,” the lawmaker continued. “It’s not just that it’s more bland than would need be for lawmaking. But they’ve identified an area that is particularly difficult and fraught with controversy, and said, now go do it. Now go figure out all the stuff that’s controversial.”
Matthew Sussis, assistant director of communications for the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank that favors lower immigration numbers, agrees. “I certainly appreciate the humane approach,” says Sussis. “But it’s hard to imagine what kind of specifics we can agree upon in terms of how you actually turn those principles into policy.”

Notice the ecumenical “prop” with the cross around his neck positioned behind Derek Miller? The photos are persuasive of a universal endorsement projecting the inference of credibility and indominatibility. It’s all psyops folks … psychological operations designed to propagandize and persuade.

Oh my … quadruple EXTRA EXTRA!
Here’s a piece just in today that projects a “faux” emotional, cultural, political and religious appeal beyond even the most seasoned military psychological warfare propagandist’s dreams and plans. Sounds like it’s just off the Pusillanimous Pup’s Utah Policy drawing board. When was the last time the reader saw three prettier people’s photos plastered across such a sniveling little editorial piece? And, just for clinchers, Curt Bramble couldn’t lend credibility to a dog fight let alone an editorial that purports to be an appeal to reason. However, Bramble does add to the article’s sleazy tone after being caught “on the take” from Big Tobacco $31,150, Energy Solutions $25,600 and PayDay Loans $20,000? The Ole’ Buzzard is landing on and digging into this turbid tome and road kill heap with delight.
