“Each of those 42 million abortions represents a living human being”

Woldometers collects its data from governments and other reputable organizations to compile its data. The sources for the abortion stats were provided by:
- Sexual and reproductive health – World Health Organization (WHO)
- Shah, I.; Ahman, E. (December 2009). “Unsafe abortion: global and regional incidence, trends, consequences, and challenges” (Pdf). Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada 31 (12): 1149–58. PMID 20085681
The total number of abortions worldwide stands just 17 million people below the total number of general deaths worldwide (59 million), which does not factor abortion into its statistic. That means the correct total number of deaths worldwide in 2018 stands closer to 101 million. Those who would accuse pro-lifers of drastically over-inflating the numbers or wrongfully equating abortions with death fundamentally deny science. LifeNews explained it best:
Each of those 42 million abortions represents a living human being whose life was violently destroyed in their mother’s womb. Each unborn baby already had their own unique DNA, making them distinct from their mother. That DNA indicated if the child was a boy or girl, their eye and hair color, their height, possible genetic disorders and other disabilities, and much more. In most cases, the unborn babies’ hearts are beating when they are aborted, too.
Here in the United States, 1 million babies are aborted every year. Fortunately, the abortion rates have been on the decline this past decade, though the practice remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States. An estimated 60 million unborn babies have died since the passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, a horrible event that will be remembered at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. this coming January.
The harrowing abortion statistics worldwide come at a time when the Trump administration has been making great strides to curtail the United States from exporting the deathly practice to poorer countries. This past May, the administration told the World Health Assembly that abortion is not a form of family planning and should not be treated as such.
In a statement to the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the U.S. delegation issued a strong pro-life statement while simultaneously criticizing efforts to make abortion great again internationally.
“We remind our fellow delegates,” the statement said, “that the International Conference on Population and Development forged international consensus that abortion should in no case be promoted as a method of family planning.”
The U.S. statement added: “The United States remains a stalwart defender and donor to maternal and children’s health, life, and wellbeing. And we will never waiver on that support.”
The statement had been crafted by Ambassador Kevin Moley, Assistant Secretary of State, who ensured the pro-life views of the Trump administration were reflected. Scott Fischbach, a pro-life advocate at the U.N., told LifeNews at the time that activists have continued pushing abortion internationally for population control.
“There has been a growing activist trend at WHO encouraging the legalization of abortion worldwide. Yet abortion is not an international right. No United Nations treaty has ever created a right to abortion,” he said. “Nor is legalized abortion a solution to maternal mortality. Maternal mortality depends on the quality of maternal health care. It does not depend on the legal status or availability of abortion.”
“We applaud the Trump administration for this pro-life statement. The World Health Organization should stick to health, not abortion advocacy,” he concluded.
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 23, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Senate voted 45-48 Thursday on Sen. Rand Paul’s latest amendment to defund Planned Parenthood, coming up short of the 60 needed to overcome current filibuster rules and pass.

The Kentucky Republican introduced an amendment last week to the Senate appropriations package funding the Departments of Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; which would forbid money appropriated for those departments from directly or indirectly going to any entity that performs or finances most abortions.
Despite the GOP holding its congressional majorities and winning the White House in 2016 by (among other issues) promising to defund the abortion giant, legislation to do so has stalled thus far and budgets have continued to subsidize Planned Parenthood. Yet GOP leaders such as Appropriations Committee Chair Sen. Richard Shelby complained that Paul’s amendment was a “spoiler” that could prevent the broader funding bill from passing.
Before Paul was able to add his proposal to the “amendment tree’s” limited slots, Senate GOP leaders filled the last slot with a placeholder amendment that added a single dollar to one program’s funding, the Washington Examiner reports. “Its only purpose was to block Paul,” an unnamed Senate insider told the Examiner.
Paul excoriated his party’s leadership on the Senate floor over the move, accusing them of “just giv[ing] lip service to pro-life issues” and being “more concerned” with “bloated government spending than saving lives.” His protest was successful in getting the vote and putting senators on the record, though the amendment ultimately failed to pass.
Following this are the whole “bloody” bunch of Republican leaders some of whom Senator Paul has excoriated!
Who among them are the quisling Judas Goats soon to be exposed while rolling over to keep the Warfare/Welfare State alive?
A far out wing of leftist Democratic party slimeballs got us into this mess and a small clique of equally reprehensible Republican Goodfellas are keeping us there.

The hypocrisy noted en masse above is no less damning than what follows individually here …. A pro-life Republican politician allegedly urged a woman he was having an affair with to get an abortion. by Tom Embury-Dennis @tomemburyd
Tim Murphy, a US congressman for Pennsylvania, admitted to the affair in September, with messages obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette showing Shannon Edwards accusing the 65-year-old of hypocrisy. After an anti-abortion message was posted on Mr Murphy’s Facebook account, she reportedly wrote: “You have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options.” For a more detailed report, see here https://goo.gl/JVLJyt
Elliott Broidy, the Republican National Committee’s deputy finance chairman, resigned after it was revealed he had President Donald Trump’s personal lackey lawyer Michael Cohen pay off a Playboy Playmate he was having an affair with and who he happened to get pregnant. “I acknowledge I had a consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate. At the end of our relationship, this woman shared with me that she was pregnant. She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period,” Broidy said in a statement to the Associated Press.
In 2012, Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN 4th District) — who called himself a “consistent supporter of pro-life values” — was outed as having supported his ex-wife getting multiple abortions. Scott “Family Values” DesJarlais also slept with patients, which led him to be fined by a medical board.

Big-spending Republicans fear that blocking funding for Planned Parenthood would derail their plans to greatly expand the welfare-warfare state.
While the House of Representatives has passed several pro-life bills, only the one letting states defund Planned Parenthood ever became law. The 20-week abortion ban and Obamacare repeal/Planned Parenthood defunding ultimately died in the Senate, where pro-abortion GOP Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have the power to block simple-majority votes, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is unwilling to revise the legislative filibuster.
