Utah’s Back-alley Bag Men are “Outed” again!
In the Ole Buzzard’s Dec. 4, 2019, exposé, “Rap’n Rambo AG Reyes Gave Crooks $1,035,463.13,” we reported on some bizarre financial transactions between AG Reyes and his campaign manager, Senior Advisor, and Penny Stock Pusher, Alan Crooks.
Not to be outdone, Robert Gehrke of the Salt Lake Tribune recently highlighted more shenanigans in, “Attorney General Sean Reyes didn’t tell the truth about what he did with a donation tied to a crime.” Here are excerpts:
Even in what has been derisively referred to as the “fraud capital of America,” the case against Washakie Renewable Energy is a doozy.
…Reyes came in vowing to clean things up, but at that time had accepted more than $30,000 in contributions from the company which had been fined $3 million for collecting bogus biofuel credits.
Reyes went on to collect nearly $20,000 more while Washakie, it is alleged, kept scooping up fraudulent credits.
…After federal agents raided Washakie’s offices, Reyes’ campaign manager, Alan Crooks, said the campaign would put the money in an escrow account setting it aside so it wouldn’t be spent until the investigation had run its course.
After charges were filed against Washakie executives in 2018, Crooks reiterated that the money was still in escrow where it would stay for safekeeping pending the outcome of the case.
“Everything’s locked down now,” Crooks said back then, calling questions about the money “stupid.”
“I’m giving you zero comment, nothing, not even a ‘no comment,'” Crooks said. “It’s a ridiculous question.”
He was defiant. And his statement, “Everything’s locked down now,” was utterly false.
Right before last Thanksgiving and without any fanfare, the Reyes campaign posted a “clarification” about the Washakie donations on the campaign website saying that by the time the campaign was contacted about the Washakie donation in 2016 the money had already been spent.
“The donation had been depleted,” Crooks said in the statement. “Due to the fact that the funds were no longer available, the campaign was not able to put the donation in escrow.”
Surprise, Surprise.
Gehrke’s latest revelations reaffirm what everyone with a pulse already knows. Reyes’ circles are full of the same calibre and types of charmers that his corrupt predecessors surrounded themselves with. Reyes and his Utah Goodfellas rely on fly-by-night networks and arrangements to prop up their Utah “pay-to-play” political underworld.
As embarrassing evidence mounts regarding Reyes’ flagrant corruption, it is instructive to note the crickets are chirping in Utah’s legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Where are the probes, subpoenas, investigations, ethical conduct commissions, grand juries, and calls for Reyes to resign?
Gary “Available Jones” Herbert and his sidekick, Loosey Goosey Lt. Governor Spencer Cox, got everyone’s tongue?
Where are the federal agencies as well? Not one agency is interested in examining the obvious, in-your-face scams that are being perpetrated right out in the open?
Is former US senator “Opioid Orrin” Hatch’s favorite US Attorney for Utah, John “The Cleaner” Huber, keeping his agent-puppies obediently constrained?
The Transparency of Tar Paper
Perusing AG Reyes’ virtue-signalling campaign website, one might assume him to be a paragon of virtue and forthrightness. He boldly features an entire page dedicated to “Transparency and Efficiency.” Here are a couple lowlights [Barf Alert!]:
“Transparency and efficiency are key components to the foundation of a strong government. The ability for citizens to see what their representatives are doing is vital to prevent corruption…
“Transparency takes consistent and ongoing communication with citizens, media, community leaders and legislators and the Utah AG office actively and tirelessly pursues these goals.”
How does a politician who blathers like that get away with such two-bit crookery? In, “The Nattering Nabobs of Narcissism!,” we reported on Reyes’ indefatigable self-aggrandizement. Is he such an over-the-top sociopath that trusting Utahans just can’t imagine he could be lying so profoundly? Perhaps!
But Gehrke’s reference to Utah as the fraud capital of America is right-on-the-money and something The Ole’ Buzzard will continue to expose.
Utah is indeed the place … for criminal fraud and corruption.
Reyes Salary from “Open Payrolls”
- 2014 Sean Reyes worked for the State of Utah and in 2014 had a reported pay of $79,267.10 according to public records. This is 34.8 percent higher than the average pay for state employees and 24.6 percent higher than the national average for government employees.
- 2015 Sean Reyes worked for the State of Utah and in 2015 had a reported pay of $154,790.05 according to public records. This is 163.2 percent higher than the average pay for state employees and 143.3 percent higher than the national average for government employees.
- 2016 Sean Reyes worked for the State of Utah and in 2016 had a reported pay of $155,016.62 according to public records. This is 163.6 percent higher than the average pay for state employees and 143.7 percent higher than the national average for government employees.
- 2017 Sean Reyes worked for the State of Utah and in 2017 had a reported pay of $187,432.37 according to public records. This is 218.7 percent higher than the average pay for state employees and 194.6 percent higher than the national average for government employees.
- 2018 Sean Reyes worked for the State of Utah and in 2018 had a reported pay of $206,908.21 according to public records. This is 251.8 percent higher than the average pay for state employees and 225.2 percent higher than the national average for government employees.
