Utah is the Place …
To
Squander Millions via Quasi-Governmental Entities like USTAR …

From our research on Utah’s shady Quasi-Governmental entities, we’re gathering enough damning information to keep us blogging for decades.  We track entities like GOED, UTA, DABC, Utah Dairy, LPP, Utah MEDICAID, UCA, URS, and ULCT.

We’ll focus on one in particular, Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR)Here’s the beginning …

Image result for blowhardThe… [USTAR] …initiative is a technology-based economic development initiative funded by the state of Utah. The Utah State Legislature passed Senate Bill 75 creating the USTAR initiative in March 2006. This measure provided funding for investments at the University of Utah (U of U) and Utah State University (USU) …. [From various sources]

Sounds great, doesn’t it? Well, here’s how it’s ending…

Utah’s Legislative Auditor General found significant irregularities that have never been resolved justly or equitably. To enjoy the Ole’ Buzzard’s original USTAR post, click HERE.

In short, no one went to jail for squandering millions in federal stimulus funds and Utah taxpayer monies. No charges were filed against USTAR collaborators who claimed non-existent employees, reported false and misleading statistical accomplishments, and obscured and falsified their activities. Certainly none of Utah’s anointed, elite Goodfellas were held accountable.

From Lindsay Whitehurst’s exposé in the Salt Lake Tribune (3/8/2017):

    1. Audit $334 million … USTAR effort inflated jobs, revenue, exaggerated by thousands the number of jobs it has created … inflated by millions the amount of money it has brought in.  [The Ole’ Buzzard: It is false, misleading and criminal to craft an artifice, design, and scheme to defraud in order to cover up phony statistical accomplishments that are claimed for profit and fame.]
    2. … more of just a glitzy way to fund University of Utah and Utah State University research.
    3. The problems stem from a “complete lack of management,” said House Speaker Becky Lockhart, R- Provo.
    4. … said it had created 3,380 jobs, but about 60 percent of those no longer existed. [The Ole Buzzard: These were likely Ghost employees created for profit and fame. Again, obscured by criminal false and misleading reports replete with artifice, designs, and schemes to defraud.]

We’ll keep on tracking…As we continue to dive more deeply into Utah Government financial records, we’ll be revealing the results in The Ole’ Buzzard’s Blog. Again, our original USTAR post can be found by clicking HERE.
